As a mother, the security of my family always came first. As your Councillor, the security of our City would be my priority. This year, every 20th Chestermerian will be a victim to a violent or a non-violent crime. Sadly, so often the victims are the most vulnerable in our society- they are our children and seniors.
This statistic is not improving as our city has the highest crime growth rate compared to all surrounding municipalities.
Bold actions must be taken, and they have to happen now. As your councilor I would hold close talks with the Chestermere RCMP Office to reprioritise what police services should be doing.
Other active steps such as installing security cameras on entrances to the city, working together with community security groups, and new education programs in schools can help mitigate many of the crime instances that we face today.
